DIY Glitter Ornaments

These DIY Glitter ornaments only use three materials and one is rather interesting! But these are so easy to make and customize!

Christmas Glitter Ornament

The past few days, Oliver has been begging me to help him make an ornament.

I had some glitter leftover from some glitter ornaments we did last year for a project for the youth at church, as well as for a class party.

So we bought a few more glass ornaments and decided to make some easy glitter ornaments.

This is seriously one of the easiest ornaments you can make and the results are always beautiful.

For the youth at church, I cut some Christmas-y sayings out of vinyl for them to choose from. You can click here to get that file. I also cut out a Nativity that I got from an external source.

For Jacks class party, I actually premade the ornaments (because glitter and first graders is a recipe for disaster!), and then we had them put their fingerprints on them to look like Christmas lights.

So these glitter ornaments are a great option as a base for more complicated ornaments, or they are beautiful on their own.

I love that these are easy enough for any age and skill level to make them, but they look so fun. They are super easy to customize to with different glitter.

Oliver was a big helper with these, and he thought it was a blast!

Tips

  • I prefer glass ornaments, but I did find some that were a bit more kid-friendly. They open up a little easier, and I dont find the floor cleaner came out the top when shaking like the glass ones. I cant find a link, but I got them in a set last year at Joanns that actually came with the glitter.
  • Ive tried various kinds of glitter, and I find that small-medium glitter is the best. The finest glitter doesnt seem to stick as well, and the larger glitter doesnt always look as good. This is the kind we got and liked the most.
  • A funnel is helpful for making this a less messy project.

How to Make a Glitter Ornament

Materials

  • Glass or Plastic Round Ornaments
  • Pledge or Mop and Glo (I have only ever done Mop and Glo, but I know others have used Pledge)
  • Glitter
  • Ribbon for hanging

Instructions

Place about a Tablespoon of the floor cleaner into the bulb.

Place the top back on the ornament and swish around until the entire ornament is covered.

Remove the top and generously pour the glitter into the ball. Probably 2 tablespoons.

Replace the top and shake around until the ornament is entirely covered.

Carefully pour out the excess glitter and floor cleaner. Replace top and add ribbon for hanging.

Enjoy!
